While there may be a lot of uncertainty and restrictions during these trying and unusual times, you can still draw visibility to your artwork through various online competitions and exhibitions. Whether you're entering previous work from the past year or creating new pieces that possibly address the challenges of the global pandemic, it's important you continue to engage with your craft and the field. Creative Quarterly: CQ60

Application Deadline: Friday, April 24
Entry Fee: $10-25 (students)

A competition open to professional art directors, advertising and graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, fine artists, as well as students. Finalists are featured in the printed CQ magazine and online galleries.

New Center of Contemporary Jewellery and Fashion Culture

Application Deadline: Friday, April 24
Entry Fee: Free

Hosted in the exhibition area of Shanghai BFC (Bund Finance Center), a wing of the Fuxin Art Museum, the theme of the Pop-up Gallery Exhibition is “Brave New Field,” representing the unknown and mysterious future world. Open to contemporary artists and designers.

Artistar Jewels

Application Deadline: Thursday, April 30
Entry Fee: N/A

An exhibition featuring unique pieces or small series, jewelry with a recognizable style and a strong communicative impact, as well as innovative creations made with traditional or recycled materials that are reinterpreted in an original way. Exhibition is held during Milan’s Jewelry Week, October 22-25, 2020.

MJSA Vision Awards

Application Deadline: Tuesday, May 12
Entry Fee: Free (students)

A competition for industry professionals with a special student award called Future of the Industry. Renderings or photographic concept images are also accepted for student submissions. Finalists are awarded gift certificates and cash prizes, as well as being featured in the MJSA Expo in New York (March 2021) and published in MJSA news releases, ads, and Metalsmith and The Retail Jeweler magazines.

Ethical Metalsmiths: Academics in Pandemic

Application Deadline: Sunday, May 31
Entry Fee: Free

An online international exhibition in reaction to the current global pandemic. The exhibition, meant for both students and instructors, will showcase the creative output that results from this unusual situation in the classroom.

Enamelist Society: Surface Matters

Application Deadline: Tuesday, June 2
Entry Fee: $15 (students)

An exhibition focusing on the surface of enamel by exploring the two extremes of grit and gloss and every enameled surface treatment in between that is used in a purposeful way. The exhibition is open to professionals and students. Students must not regularly sell their work.

Ethical Metalsmiths: So Fresh + So Clean

Application Deadline: Friday, June 5
Entry Fee: Free (student members) or $35 membership

An online international student exhibition showcasing the most innovative jewelry and metalsmithing work made by students who acknowledge the need for responsibility in the field. All applicants will be eligible for the Emerging Artist Award, which is given to a student who embraces the greater mission of the Ethical Metalsmiths organization, which is to inspire responsible jewelry practices through education, connection, and action. Applicants must be an EM member.

The de Young Open

Application Deadline: Sunday, June 14
Entry Fee: Free

A juried art exhibition open to local artists from the Bay Area in celebration of the de Young Museum’s 125th anniversary. The concept of the show is “On the Edge,” referring to the physical location of the Bay Area and the cutting-edge creative culture here. Artists can offer their work for sale and will retain 100% of the proceeds. The work should be made recently between 2018 and 2020.

BeadDreams International Jewelry Artistry Awards

Application Deadline: Monday, June 29
Entry Fee: $35

Annual competition for original work made since the year 2000 with categories for Finished Jewelry, Objects and Accessories, and Young Beader. Finalists will be featured in Bead&Button magazine. Entries this year will be submitted by photograph only.
