Now that you have made it through Week 1 and are settling into your classes, take a look at some of these upcoming events that will give you the opportunity to collaborate with fellow students, network with professionals, as well as boost your portfolios and resumes.

Academy U Styling Network Event

Take advantage of this once-a-semester meetup to build contacts and collaborate on photoshoots with stylists, photographers, fashion designers, jewelry designers, hair stylists, and makeup artists. Be sure to bring your business cards and portfolios! Hosted by Academy U Styling.

Dragonfly Designs Meet & Greet with Stacee Gillelen

Meet Dragonfly Designs owner Stacee Gillelen and her staff to learn about the company, its art education programs, and paid internship/job opportunities as after-school instructors, camp counselors, and more. Dragonfly Designs’ programs specialize in teaching jewelry making, mixed media, painting, textiles & fiber arts, yoga, and dance to both children and adults. Hosted by the Jewelry & Metal Arts (JEM) Club.

Gemstone Sale with Cory Wood

Date: Monday, October 1 & Wednesday, October 3 – Friday, October 5

Hosted by the JEM Club and generously provided by Cory’s Custom Creations & Gems, this biannual event allows students to purchase a wide variety of gemstones for their work at discounted prices. Cash, check, and card are accepted!

Etching on Steel with Leslie Kail Villareal

Date: Wednesday, November 7
Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Location: 410 Bush, room 120

Join local jewelry artist Leslie Kail Villareal for a demonstration on using etched steel plates to achieve custom rolling mill textures. This technique demonstration builds on current curriculum in the JEM program by offering students a new approach to designing custom patterned textures on metal. Hosted by the JEM Club.
